Weird Nature

A John Downer Production for BBC.

Yet another award from the Royal Television Society for this ground-breaking sequence. Tim decided to rediscover the work of Jules Marey, French photographer, who pioneered motion analysis with sequential photographic images. Here we did it in 3D with bushbabies, frogs, lizards, fish and snakes (believe me, you do not want to work in the dark with a flying snake !!). We used all the rigs - Josephine, Susan and Insect - to create a multi-dimensional journey around the animals as we study their motion. The Archer Fish sequence was a revelation - we travel 360 degrees around the fish, underwater and over the water, as it shoots a jet of water at a beetle. We used our latest lazer trickery to capture this extraordinary moment.
