BBC Tomorrow's World: 'Dog'

Auto-exposure by Tim Macmillan

Using a 360 degree 301-frame camera, a sequence was shot to illustrate the Tomorrow's World feature of the camera and technique (May 1993).

The dog created a strong reaction – many people phoned in to the BBC because they imagined the dog to be dead! This highlights one phisiological aspect of the effect when it was first broadcast – people were seeing something completely outside their understanding up to that point. Now the technique has become more ubiquitous there is less of a comprehension gap.
