Shark
A Granada Wild production for Animal Planet.
We were sent to Cape Town on the trail of the elusive Great White
Shark. Only small boats were allowed near Seal Island where the
sharks were predating on the seal colony, so we were limited to
using our 10-Nikon rig, which we adapted for underwater use (just
in case a shark landed on us). Luckily, after three days of
trial and error, trying to lure the shark to the bait, we struck
lucky with a fantastic strike on the decoy seal. Not only that,
we had taken the computer out to Cape Town, so we were able to scan
the images, stabilize and de-flicker, and then put the 10 frames
through FloMo, creating the finished shot the same evening to the
delight of Jenny Jones, the producer. From our original 10 frames
we were able top create clips of 1000 frames, which does show the
way forward with the technique - more footage with less cameras!
